Sunday Reflection

"Self-culture has been loudly and boastfully proclaimed as sufficient for all our ideals of perfection. But if we listen to the best men and women everywhere ... they will say that science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all — the apathy of human beings." -- Helen Keller (6/27/1880 - 6/1/1968), author, activist for the sight and hearing impaired from her book My Religion (1927).

Keller was described as a suffragist, pacifist, and advocate of family planning. She helped to establish the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920, and was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964 for her work on behalf of the blind and deaf.
